Filipina celebrities Maine Mendoza is self-confessed Selena Gomez fans.

Expectedly, they count among the multitude of fans expressing shock by Selena's revelation that she had a kidney transplant. She opened up about her battle with lupus back in October 2015.

Last day, September 14, the American singer posted on Instagram the story of how she bravely dealth with her health issue for the past several months.

According to the 25-year-old-singer, she had to undergo kidney transplant after her doctors diagnosed her with lupus and autoimmune disease that triggers one's immune system to attack healthy cells, tissues, and organs.


Her caption read: "I'm very aware some of my fans had noticed I was laying low for part of the summer and questioning why I wasn't promoting my new music, which I was extremely proud of.

"So I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering.

"It was what I needed do for my overall health."

The "Kill Em with Kindness" singer's caption was accompanied with a photo of herself and her kidney doctor holding hands while lying side by side in hospital beds.

"And finally, there aren't words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa.

"She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me.

"I am incredibly blessed. I love you so much sis.

"Lupus continues to be very misunderstood but progress is being made."

So I found out I needed to get a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering. It was what I needed to do for my overall health. I honestly look forward to sharing with you, soon my journey through these past several months as I have always wanted to do with you. Until then I want to publicly thank my family and incredible team of doctors for everything they have done for me prior to and post-surgery. And finally, there aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me. Maine went to Selena's Revival Concert at MOA Arena in Pasay City, Philippines on July 31 last year.

Maine sent words of encouragement to her idol. "My heart (crying emoji) we love you, Sel! Get well soon, brave woman!"
