This is the dismay of Professor Darwin Absari of the Institute of Islamic Studies of the University of the Philippines, who is in the group requesting that the Martial Law be removed from Mindanao. Absari noted that it is likely to be similar to the events of the 1972 Martial Law declaration of former President Ferdinand Marcos the events in Mindanao where the rebels in the region grew.
